We quarantine all new livestock for a minimum of seven days before we sell. This is to ensure our customers receive a healthy, hungry specimen ready to accept various prepared foods. With thirty years combined hobby experience, disciplined husbandry skills, and MAC Certified suppliers, we lose very few animals during our seven day QT. Many of our customers have set up their saltwater aquariums without losing a single fish. We don’t stock the Damselfish, because in our opinion, they should not be forced to live in the environment they are subjected to in captivity. These fish have been used in the past to "break in" the biological filter in a marine aquarium. This is not fair to the animal because it is forced to live in a toxic environment. Whether they can survive the "break in" is not the issue, these fish are not to be abused for this purpose. If your LFS or online supplier suggests to use these fish for that purpose….They should not be selling live animals! Damsels are extremely territorial and have a very aggressive nature to help them protect their claim. When your water quality is acceptable for adding new fish, introducing fish that the Damsel will not see as a threat to his territory is quite a task. Even though they don't generally grow very large, they require a large aquarium and must be kept with other aggressive fish for long term success. Live Rock helps create a quality biotope for marine animals. Use Live Rock to cycle your aquarium, not Damselfish! Some corals require "target feeding" to thrive. We believe if an animal has a mouth......it has one for a reason. Some of these invertebrates require so much food to keep healthy, that only the best filtration system will be adequate. Supplemental feeding in a target feeding container can be very beneficial and reduces waste in the aquarium. It is important that these animals are fed quality foods to thrive. Most coral require adequate lighting with the proper light spectrum to survive. Some require supplemental feeding with zoo-plankton others require feeding with phyto-plankton. What type of supplement to feed, depends on what type of coral is kept in the aquarium. Specific diets for specific feeders will decide whether the animal will survive or thrive. We take great pride in offering the healthiest livestock. See for yourself!
